bearlogprint

take a looksy.

Bonjour!

I added a new print to my etsy. Slowly picking and choosing what I want to reproduce and what is one of a kind. I also lowered all my prices to help everyone out. I’m poor, your poor…but we still want to be able to get a few things every now and then.

I’ve got some exciting and fantastic news!!!! I have a solo show lined up for June at…

Redux!!

It’s a super cute space that just recently expanded their gallery and I get to fill it up! Its the perfect time to have a show in Portland too! I couldn’t sleep from already planning all the things I want to do!

I am currently still working on a title for the show. I have my theme…but the name is always hard for me.

One of these days maybe I will have some blog friends to comment on this. I want to discuss the idea of fine art and reproducing prints. A part of me feels like a sell out making prints, but I also am completely dedicated to making a living off of my art….so what is the happy medium of reproducing and selling originals?
Its making my brain hurt just thinking about it.

pulling cotton

When I was little I use to have this feeling where I was a piece of cotton being pulled apart. I know that sounds kind of weird. Just imagine when you use to do school craft projects and you had to stretch out the cotton to make a beard for an elf or something. That is what my whole body would feel like. It started after I had the anesthesia when my tonsils were removed in first grade. I still get the feeling. I actually invoked the feeling when I was meditating one day. I think that was the only time I successfully meditated. I felt my head shrink inside the middle of a huge sphere of energy and the cotton feeling happened. I always think that its some psychic connection to the world happening…maybe someday I will figure it out.

Last night before I went to bed I asked to have a new perspective on things. When I first moved to Portland I had so many dreams where I was dying. Last night I finally I had a dream where I said goodbye to my friends, and not because I was dying but because I was moving away. I slept better than I have in a long time and actually felt refreshed when I woke up.

Steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans

homemade cheesecake!

Matt and I made our Valentines Dinner the other night for the third year in a row! As an attempt to save money we only eat out once a week, and we’ve been doing Saturday morning breakfast. Portland has some good breakfast places and it seems less expensive eating out for breakfast. I can say that this place might be the best breakfast place ever!

I’m searching my head for some great book collaboration ideas. I want to produce a small book with a few other artists. Of course most of the artists I actually know are back in the ATL. And geez louise, artists can be scattered and preoccupied, so rounding up the calvary seems a little tough at times. I’m guilty of hiding out too, but one of these days it will happen.

more to come later!

I’m a little bad at this whole updating the blog frequently. I’ll try to get a little better at it.

Dear Portland,
Why are all the best galleries booked up through 2009? and what am I suppose to do in the mean time?

love,
Valerie

In the mean time… I am going to do the usual. I am searching for a part time job, preferably one that will not steal my soul and one that will not leave me too drained to make art. I mean, what would be the point in that?

My etsy account is up and rolling.

I sold one piece in less than 24hours, so that was nice. The economy is making it hard for people to buy art, including me. Every single piece of work I’ve done has been on the backs of the rives bfk paper I used for my screen prints many moons ago. So that lucky someone that buys that artwork will find some funny old screen print of mine on the back. Pretty special… right?

Poor Alberta Arts district (where we live) is slowly becoming a ghost town. We found out about 6 businesses were all closing. Help us Obama!

We watched the Grammy’s last night. Which I don’t think I ever have. We wanted to see Radiohead play. Thom Yorke, you are a genuis. I wish you and I could be friends in real life. I don’t say that about a lot of famous type people, but I can tell he makes music because he’s completely in love with it.
radiohead lookin' good

I guess this is all for now.
