I love Alice Neel’s portraits! They have so much presence.
It feels like I’ve been scaling a mountain for awhile now….but it looks like I can finally see a glimpse of the top now. I’m sure I’ll pass a few goats and stay at a few cottages on the way, but the air is much clearer now.
So I have some exciting things to share! Ok one I am still keeping on the down-low until its finished!
But the other news is that I have another show on April 29th! Its going to be part of the Alberta Arts Last Thursday! Its an edgy salon and gallery that recently opened up. The owner, Kristenlee, is all about the creative parts of life and has embraced her love for transforming hair with wanting the art community to come together. I’m really excited that I met her and that our timing worked out so well. Hopefully I will have an online poster and more details to post soon!
check her out!
also: I changed some of work to make them in color to go with the rest of my work.
Oh me oh my.
Monday, March 23rd, 2009Sometimes I feel like Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn have been reincarnated inside my art. The delicate and elegant ways they moved was so interesting. I can’t describe the exact connection to their movement and my illustrations but there is an element that feels inspired by posed movements.

Of course the era they lived in has a whole lot to do with it too.
I have some exciting news to be announced shortly, but I am superstitious about announcing things before they actually happen. But its one of those things that I would really love to happen and I hope that I don’t over-think anything. Hopefully I can articulate clearly and calmly all that I need to say….
I wonder if being in your 20’s is always suppose to feel like a transition. I’m tired of always having the almost theres…
Example:
I work on art every single day…sometimes for hours and hours, but I still don’t have a proper area to work in. I don’t have anywhere to store all of my art except this cardboard binder that I taped together.
I just wonder what I could make if I actually had room and not a kitchen corner. But at least I don’t use these hindrances to stop me from working at all. Someday I will have a proper workspace…when the money comes in. Stupid money.
Oh yeah! My art show was moved to July 3rd now! Seems there was some confusion in people confirming their show, but thats fine with me. More time to make it everything I want it to be!
The show will be called “Amis de Renard” (fox friends) There are a few Folklore fables with a Reynard who was a fox.
Ok,
Bye.
Pikaland!
Saturday, March 14th, 2009Yay! The pika package for march was just released and I was part of it! You can read about me and all the other wonderful artists in the online zine for march too!
The bad news is I hadn’t had time to experiment with the paper for the printer yet when I sent them all the way to Malaysia…so the quality isn’t nearly as good as the ones I’m selling on Etsy! But oh well…I’m still learning how to make my prints render the original the best that it can.
Matt and I went to Tiga last night! Its one of my favorite spots to hang out. Its sooooo cozy and they usually have the best music playing. They also make their own infused vodkas…I like the habanero. The owners are super nice and I’m talking to them about another art show around February.
I am so excited to be so excited about all the artwork I’ve been producing! Its turning out to be really cohesive and I can’t wait to frame it all! I hope the economy won’t kill all chances of selling it. I am super poor.
My kitchen table often looks like a mad scientist/dumper diving fiasco. I use pickle jars, yogurt containers, empty spice containers, the same paper towel over and over, cling wrap to keep the paint wet in the fridge….
I’m trying not waste anything. Did I mention my brushes are like 44 years old…helps me problem solve though. “How do I get in that little gemstone with this crazy frayed brush…oh just tilt and jiggle it a little.”
ok bye.
